It’s charcoal grey. The car is. A charcoal grey Honda Civic: Colorado plates. The right front tire is deflated and the back bumper is dented.
I don’t know when it got there. But it’s been there for months. Since before January and before December; before November. Probably before October too.
I first took note of it at the end of December. How strange, I thought, that someone with Colorado plates is parked in this lot. Though, no more strange than a car with Nebraska plates to be parked in the same lot. It was snowing that night.
The next day I saw the car in the same spot with snow piled on it; it hadn’t moved an inch. How strange, I thought. But maybe they just got a ride. Bad driving conditions last night. It was still there when I left that evening. The only change was the snow that melted in the afternoon sun.
It was still there when I returned in a month. No one had come to collect it over the whole of the month of December. The tire pressure had lessened in all four tires. No other changes had occurred. How strange, I thought, that this car has not moved in two months. But of course, maybe the car had just stopped working. Had to be abandoned.
How strange though, I thought, that it has not been towed. But maybe they didn’t want to pay for the truck to come. Out of state plates. Probably a student. Probably nothing strange.
